The Basics:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a heavy industrial setting, such as steel mill, paper mill, manufacturing, mining, or like environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of tools and equipment used for industrial purposes, to include cranes, fork trucks, heavy machinery, and hand and power tools.
  • Basic math and reading comprehension skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge and ability to trouble shoot problems.

 

The Extras:

  • Previous experience working in steel manufacturing preferred.
  • Certification in operation of heavy machinery such as fork truck, crane, etc. desired.
  • Desire to share knowledge and skills with less experienced team members.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Operate and monitor steelmaking equipment to include Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Metallurgy Furnace (LMF), and RH degasser.
  • Monitor position and condition of ladle during RH/LMF operations.
  • Collaborate with Furnace operator to control and maintain temperature of molten metal coming from furnaces.
  • Use computerized controls to monitor rate of circulation of steel in vessels.
  • Take temperature and material sample of molten steel.
  • Demonstrates the company values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Relationships, and Sustainability
  • Add alloys according to chemistry specs.
  • Fulfills the responsibilities required to achieve the Quality Commitment
  • Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by fostering an environment that embodies trust and respect.
  • Ensure working knowledge of competencies as defined in ISO 14001 (current version), IATF 16949 (current version), and ISO 17025 (current version)     

 

 

YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Industrial setting
  • Gulf coast region in Calvert, AL
  • Shift Work
  • People with heart pacemakers or any other electronic medical device are strictly prohibited from entering the furnace area. These devices include implanted pacemakers or implantable cardiac defibrillators where the device may be affected.  Individuals identified to potentially work in EMF affected areas should identify the specific device they have as part of a medical history and manufacturer’s recommendations should be followed.
