DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

We are seeking applicants to join our team at the new Steelmaking facility located at ArcelorMittal Calvert. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a brand-new state of the art Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) and Slab Caster facility.

The ideal candidate will provide operational support in the Tundish & Caster area by preparing, installing, and maintaining tundish refractory that support high‑quality steel production within the highly automated continuous casting process.


  The Basics:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 1 year of Overhead Crane Operations experience
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a heavy industrial setting (steel mill, paper mill, manufacturing, mining, or similar)
  • Advanced knowledge of industrial tools and equipment, including cranes, forklifts, heavy machinery, and hand/power tools
  • Strong math, reading, and comprehension skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word)

The Extras:

  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing operation practices
  • Ability to recognize and implement process improvements
  • Certifications in Crane operation desired
  • Ability to communicate effectively with ground personnel and supervisors
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to identify equipment issues
  • Proven attention to detail and focus in fast-paced operations

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Unload slabs from the slab caster
  • Load slabs onto outbound trailers
  • Periodically loading slabs on to the caster runout table on an ‘as needed’ basis
  • Manually applying slab identification tags on to slabs on an ‘as needed’ basis
  • Assisting other operational areas with-in the casting department on an ‘as needed’ basis
  • Assisting with training personnel with crane operations
  • Follow all safety rules, including lockout procedures, hot‑work protocols, and confined‑space guidelines
  • Coordinate with and support maintenance personnel
  • Perform routine maintenance and housekeeping
  • Monitor and notify supervision of any abnormal equipment or process conditions
  • Operate mobile equipment, including forklifts and overhead cranes
  • Opportunity to learn and train hands on in a Steelmaking Facility.

YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Indoor and outdoor environmental conditions with exposure to elevated noise levels and extreme heat; will work in proximity to molten metal
  • Required to work at heights up to 100 ft
  • Personal protective equipment required
  • Located in the Gulf Coast region in Calvert, AL

Shift:

Shifts include, but are not limited to:

  • Initially: Day shift, Monday–Friday during training
  • During operations: Rotating 12‑hour shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
