Communication Network Infrastructure Engineer

Created in February 2014 through a 50/50 joint venture of the world’s largest and second largest steelmakers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel Corporation, AM/NS Calvert is located in Calvert, AL.  Our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products for the automotive, pipe and tube, appliance/HVAC, service center and construction industries in the NAFTA market.  

AM/NS Calvert products are marketed in NAFTA through managing joint venture partner ArcelorMittal.




  • Responsible for daily engineering support of AM/NS Calvert communication Infrastructure. Directs activities of AM/NS Calvert network operations staff.



  • Design and document enhancements and changes to existing wired and voice Infrastructure in support of projects as directed by Manager of IT Infrastructure.
  • Provide incident response escalation to network operations team.
  • Provide incident root-cause analysis and identify mitigation steps to prevent future incidents.
  • Monitor network components and network status to identify risks of communication and application outages that require mitigation.
  • Drive efforts to improve communication Infrastructure stability and availability for applications.
  • Drive resolution of communication outages impacting IT infrastructure. Provide problem resolution for complex issues.
  • Participate and drive business continuity and recovery of company's information systems, including needs analysis, design, plan, implementation and documentation.
  • Participate in development of design strategy, including technology standardization and modernization, and engineering best practices.
  • Manage priorities, projects, schedules, resources, issues and risks effectively.

  • Technical certifications like CCNA, ICND1, CompTIA A+ are a plus.
  • Infrastructure certifications in Fiber / Cat 6 termination specifications are a plus.



  • At least 5+ years of professional IT experience, including 3+ years of infrastructure experience
  • 2+ years demonstrated experience in Project management role.
  • Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platform
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Self-starter / self-motivated, capable of staying on track and pursuing solutions without supervision.
  • Ability to interact with business, technical, managerial, and executive level staff.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and excellent, proven analytical skills





  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal communications and complex problem solving, advanced written and verbal communications skills including the ability to develop presentations and present to senior management
  • Working knowledge of Infrastructure components: Fiber / Cat 6 termination specifications, Cisco switching / Router products, and WIFI / VoIP methodology.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco Collaboration products
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in a hands-on manner with technical professionals
  • Strong process orientation, problem solving & troubleshooting skills and a firm commitment to quality
  • Exhibiting professionalism and diplomacy
  • Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative
  • Extensive experience of customer and supplier relationships
  • Experience in enterprise applications, solutions and data center infrastructures

  • Able to competently handle a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material

  • Interest and ability to work at our site location in Calvert, Alabama

  • Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
  • Rotating On-Call coverage
