Crane Electrical Technician (Maintenance) 1

Created in February 2014 through a 50/50 joint venture of the world’s largest and second largest steelmakers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, AM/NS Calvert is located in Calvert, AL.  Our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products for the automotive, pipe and tube, appliance/HVAC, service center and construction industries in the NAFTA market.  

AM/NS Calvert products are marketed in NAFTA through managing joint venture partner ArcelorMittal.



OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY/PURPOSE OF POSITION: Electrical and Asset Automation Support for the Central Maintenance Group.



  1. Ensuring the readiness and availability of the electrical and Asset Automation equipment for all Central Maintenance Assets
  2. Responsible for the overall electrical maintenance of the Central Maintenance Assets, performing required scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and trouble-shooting
  3. Root Cause Analysis of equipment failures and major breakdowns
  4. Predictive Maintenance of equipment; Analysis of Predictive Maintenance findings
  5. Identifying and proposing solutions for repeat equipment failures and unplanned downtime events
  6. Technical support for breakdowns and troubleshooting
  7. Trouble shooting and solving electrical, PLC, Magnet system, and automation equipment failures
  8. Assist IT department in Managing the Wireless network for all Central Maintenance Assets
  9. Updating Software/Firmware for all Central Maintenance Assets
  10. Analyze and Modify PLC logic as required
  11. Maintain the Crane RMMS system
  12. Retrieve and analyze data from Citec Scada system
  13. Updating drawings and technical documentation

EDUCATION, ACCREDITATION & EXPERIENCE: Technical expertise / years of experience in the field

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2-year technical degree or certification preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in Electrical maintenance
  • Experience in steel industry or related industrial environment
  • Experience in PLC Logic; Ladder and Function Block


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Knowledge / Skills required

  • Computer and PLC knowledge
  • Computer skills to include SAP, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in maintaining and updating Windows-based computer applications
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Schneider, Allen Bradley and Siemens S7 PLC systems and Software
  • Knowledge in Electrical Troubleshooting, Variable Frequency Drives, Radio Remote Controls, Process Automation, and Electro permanent Magnet systems
  • Knowledge of Predictive Maintenance techniques and analysis
  • Ability to work with electrical measurement equipment
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to competently handle a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal communications skills, written and verbal
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic and displays a high degree of professionalism
  • Interest and ability to work at our site location in Calvert, Alabama 



  • Industrial/mill environment



  • Days, Monday to Friday 8-hour shifts, with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
