The Specialist is responsible for monitoring equipment performance, scheduling needed maintenance, machine guarding, safety oversight, tracking, and work instruction updates for the Down Coiler within the Hot Strip Mill to support the business needs of AM/NS Calvert.


The Basics:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business focus, or combination of post-secondary education and related manufacturing experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operations or maintenance in a heavy industrial environment, preferably Hot Strip Mill or Steel industry
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot different types of industrial equipment: pumps, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, rotating equipment, gearing, bearing, and cooling systems
  • Experience leading project teams
  • Knowledge of coiler equipment
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

  • Working knowledge of SAP preferred
  • Steel Industry experience preferred

  • Responsible for Down Coiler Equipment performance in the Hot Strip Mill
  • Ensuring equipment reliability to achieve business requirements
  • Analyzing and optimizing equipment
  • Identifying reliability issues early as to eliminate large production delays
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies, completing inventory risk assessments / requests
  • Support scheduling, planning and lead the execution of short and long-term maintenance activities
  • Leads Lockout efforts for downtime events and outages
  • Responsible for work instructions updates to reflect changes made
  • Responsible for ensuring the workflow, which includes gatekeeping, backlog review, report tracking
  • Interaction with machine shops to ensure quality refurbishments of equipment
  • Support management in optimizing safety, quality, cost, availability, and performance of equipment
  • Accurately estimate the resources and duration of repairs in equipment
  • Supporting the planning in outages and with unprecedented activities
  • Perform and/or assist in the development and implementation of policies, standards and procedures for the technical work performed in the department
  • Work closely with Operations/Operators to ensure the training documents/procedures are up to date




  • Office and Industrial setting in the Hot Strip Mill
  • Gulf coast region in Calvert, AL
  • Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
  • Workdays typically start at 6:00 a.m.
  • Outages and Pitstops (typically twice per month) are expected at 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Semi-Annual Outages (typically twice per year) are expected to be 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
