DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

The Power Distribution Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of electrical power distribution systems across ArcelorMittal Calvert. This position provides technical expertise to maintenance, operations, and engineering teams through the development of maintenance strategies, system improvements, equipment reliability initiatives, and support for power system operations. Through strong analytical skills, technical knowledge, and collaboration, the Power Distribution Specialist helps maintain safe, efficient, and reliable operations throughout the site.

The Basics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required; master’s degree preferred
  • Power Systems emphasis preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering within an industrial environment
  • Experience working with low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems up to 34.5kV
  • Experience with SCADA systems, power distribution equipment, and electrical protection systems
  • Microsoft Office proficiency and strong computer skills
  • Strong technical communication skills with professionals, operations personnel, contractors, and construction trades
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The Extras:

  • Experience with SAP and CMMS systems
  • Experience with SKM or similar electrical engineering software
  • Knowledge of NETA, NESC, NEC, NFPA-70E, IEEE, ANSI, and other applicable industry standards
  • Experience with power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit analysis, arc flash hazard analysis, harmonic analysis, and protective device coordination
  • Experience with HVAC electrical automation systems preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Develop and maintain preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance strategies for power distribution assets utilizing the site's CMMS
  • Establish and manage CMMS asset hierarchies, equipment criticality rankings, maintenance plans, inspections, testing frequencies, and work order standards
  • Monitor and analyze SCADA data, alarms, system events, and operational trends to improve system reliability and support troubleshooting efforts
  • Ensure departmental assets achieve optimal operability and maintenance of Power Distribution and HVAC systems
  • Coordinate electrical preventive maintenance outages and switching activities to support safe execution of maintenance and capital projects
  • Provide technical support and recommendations for power system-related decisions
  • Review and support electrical construction and installation activities, including transformers, protection systems, power meters, lighting systems, and associated equipment up to 34.5kV
  • Coordinate engineering activities related to equipment modifications, system improvements, technical evaluations, cost estimates, testing, and commissioning
  • Lead root cause failure analyses (RCFA) for electrical failures, power disturbances, equipment malfunctions, and unplanned outages
  • Maintain lifecycle plans for transformers, breakers, relays, battery systems, power quality equipment, and substation infrastructure
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize SCADA system architecture, communications networks, HMI interfaces, field devices, RTUs, PLC integrations, and data acquisition systems
  • Establish technical standards and specifications for equipment purchases, modifications, and system upgrades
  • Develop reports and recommendations by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends
  • Lead and support continuous improvement programs and project teams
  • Support management in optimizing equipment quality, reliability, availability, performance, and cost
  • Coordinate and direct personnel as required

  • Gulf Coast region in Calvert, Alabama
  • Days, Monday through Friday, with extended hours required to support outages, projects, and operational needs
