Located in Calvert, 35 miles north of Mobile, Alabama, our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades in the North America market. DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
The ideal candidate will provide new product commercialization support through expertise and analytical and communication skills within the highly automated production chains to meet the business goals of AM/NS Calvert.
The Basics:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; materials, metallurgical or mechanical focus preferred
- Well-rounded engineering knowledge in all steel industry relevant disciplines
- Proficient to intermediate experience or academic knowledge in at least one step of iron and steel processing like either melt shop and casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, annealing, and coating
- Basic experience or knowledge in welding and forming technology
- Proficiency in data analytics and root cause analyses
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint)
The Extras:
- Masters or PhD in ferrous metallurgy or material science or mechanical engineering
- Understanding of steel as a material for applications in the automotive and other industries
- Proficient to intermediate experience in mechanical testing
- Knowledgeable in data extraction and use of relational data basis (data mining) and statistical data analyses

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Your field will be innovations and product extensions at AM/NS Calvert related to automotive applications, to energy transport and energy transition, and to general industrial applications
- Regularly lead industrial product implementation for steel innovations new to AM/NS Calvert following the commercialization stage gating and/or trial process
- Lead, when being assigned, product extension, or internal manufacturing cost improvement initiatives or combinations of both
- Plan mill trials in a cost efficient and resourceful manner
- Lead the execution of mill trials
- Finalize implementation or extension projects by documenting trial results and customer feed-back
- Connect with global R&D and marketing entities for input and cooperation
- Identify where global R&D lab studies can add to and expedite the industrialization
- Integrate operations, technology, and quality entities in all process steps at AM/NS Calvert for early optimization, learning and automatization of new products’ manufacturing
YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Office and Industrial setting at AM/NS Calvert production site with one day work from home a week
- Gulf coast region in Calvert, AL
- Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
