Director Maintenance

Created in February 2014 through a 50/50 joint venture of the world’s largest and second largest steelmakers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, AM/NS Calvert is located in Calvert, AL.  Our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products for the automotive, pipe and tube, appliance/HVAC, service center and construction industries in the NAFTA market.  

AM/NS Calvert products are marketed in NAFTA through managing joint venture partner ArcelorMittal.

 

 

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities include proactive equipment program implementation and adherence as well as adherence to and improvement of Health and Safety standards and personnel behaviors to assure a safe working environment.
  • Responsible for Central Maintenance Organization including centrally managed assets, field execution teams and plant maintenance contracting. 
  • Responsible for overall plant reliability as related to implementation of Maintenance Work Management and the AMNS Asset Reliability business processes.  Area Managers of Central Maintenance report directly to this position and Area Managers of the manufacturing units report indirectly.  Together all are accountable for effectiveness and efficiency over the overall plant maintenance function. 
  • Responsible for overall Plant Maintenance Budget management working with Manufacturing Maintenance Managers and their respective General Managers.
  • Support the manufacturing COO and manufacturing General Managers in implementing best practices and closing gaps in their respective areas.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:      

  • Provide training to co-workers and help maintain Standard Operating Procedures, Best Practices and Job Safe Practices to ensure the transfer of knowledge to others
  • Champion Journey to Zero in Central Maintenance.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance – environmental, occupational health and safety including Cranes, Power and Distribution, and HVAC equipment as well as Infrastructure such as properties, roads, rail buildings, etc.
  • Ensure the efficient and reliable supply of support services to Manufacturing Business Units.
  • Foster an environment that supports World Class Continuous Improvement with focus on Professional Maintenance.
  • Ensure the development and achievement of Departmental Business Plans.
  • Ensure development of hourly workforce, staff and leadership capability.
  • Fulfill responsibilities within the Asset Reliability Management Policy and Program.  Champion “Equipment and Reliability” as part of Manufacturing Reliability by “championing” principles and policies for Effective Asset Reliability Processes. 
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, environmental, occupational health and safety.
  • Development and achievement of department business plan and budget, administration of department and development of employees.
  • Develop short- and long-term strategies to optimize and ensure ongoing asset capability and reliability to maximize value for AM/NS Calvert.
  • Collaborate effectively with other leaders and processes for overall optimization for AM/NS Calvert.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of benchmarking; best in class performance to ensure long term business competitiveness.

EDUCATION & ACCREDITATION:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or related field
  • Minimum of 15 years job related experience in manufacturing related to operations or maintenance including 3 years in a manager role. 

 

KNOWLEDGE:    

  • Broad knowledge of the steel industry and related technology and market trends.
  • Ability to lead and develop operating and maintenance personnel and organizations.
  • Experience across ArcelorMittal’s Manufacturing Operations is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of change management and communication principles and methodologies. Demonstrated organizational credibility and presence through a track record of accomplishments and results orientation.
  • Ability to communicate in person with all levels of the Organization as an advocate for specific changes.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, influence others to achieve business results.
  • Management experience – skilled at planning and development of processes, systems and human resources.
  • Business judgment

  • Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
