Hot Dip Galvanizing Line Process Technology Engineer
Created in February 2014 through a 50/50 joint venture of the world’s largest and second largest steelmakers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, AM/NS Calvert is located in Calvert, Ala. Our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products for the automotive, pipe and tube, appliance/HVAC, service center and construction industries in the NAFTA market.
AM/NS Calvert products are marketed in NAFTA through managing joint venture partner ArcelorMittal.
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
The ideal candidate will develop and maintain effective technology and lead projects to optimize process and product capabilities, improve quality, productivity and cost (yield) within the highly automated Hot Dip Galvanizing lines to meet the business goals of AM/NS Calvert.
The Basics:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Minimum 2 years of experience in HDG Process Technology Field
- Background in major steel mill processes and products with in-depth knowledge of HDGL processes and technology
- Knowledge of (metal coated) steel strip properties and applications
- Understanding of heat and mass transfer, combustion, chemical reactions, and equilibrium (chemistry and chemical engineering fundamentals), metallurgy of steels, etc.
- Demonstrated understanding of control systems, instrumentation, process models.
The Extras:
- Advanced Technical knowledge of Hot Dip Galvanizing process and flat carbon products
- 5+ years of experience in HDG Process Technology Field Preferred
- Strong Teamwork and a hands-on working approach
- Advanced skills in data analysis, Statistics (design of experiments, data analysis and model formulation).

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Developing and maintaining an effective technical team responsible for Hot Dip Galvanizing (HDG) technology and development
- Leads major improvement projects; improving process and product capabilities, throughput, cost (yield), energy and environmental performance
- Providing technical support for all HDG units, reporting HDG process performance to Senior management, and managing/improving statistical systems that define product/process capabilities
- Developing/improving inspection and testing methods, driving functionality and performance of process models/control systems
- Fulfilling commitment to safe/healthy work environment with strong commitment to quality

- Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
