IT Network Engineer

Created in February 2014 through a 50/50 joint venture of the world’s largest and second largest steelmakers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, AM/NS Calvert is located in Calvert, AL.  Our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products for the automotive, pipe and tube, appliance/HVAC, service center and construction industries in the NAFTA market.  

AM/NS Calvert products are marketed in NAFTA through managing joint venture partner ArcelorMittal.

 

 

Overall Responsibility:

  • Assist with design and implementation of new solutions and improving resilience of the current environment.
  • Maximizing network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades and collaborating with senior network engineers on network optimization.
  • Undertaking data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments, using information from multiple sources.
  • Securing network systems by establishing and enforcing policies and defining and monitoring access.
  • The support and administration of firewall environments in line with IT security policy.
  • Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
  • Reporting network operational status by gathering and prioritizing information and managing projects.
  • Upgrading data network equipment to the latest stable firmware releases.
  • The configuration of routing and switching equipment.
  • Maintain and configure Check point and ASA firewalls.
  • Support design, implementation and operation for the LAN/WAN, internet, wireless, Cisco VOIP, and Extranet Access networking infrastructure.
  • Responsible for coordination with Senior Architect and Senior Engineers with implementing and testing complex network infrastructure systems, and operational support of network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, wireless, firewalls, and Cisco VOIP/CUCM.
  • Support and collaborate with infrastructure and solution delivery leads, as well as business division leaders and other stakeholders in support of strategic company goals.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve networking incidents and provide high level support for daily operations.
  • Proactively identify and resolve potential LAN/WAN to ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Monitor the wireless network and devices and perform wireless maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve networking incidents and provide support daily to users.
  • Support daily add, moves and changes.
  • Ability to work weekend and off-hours when needed.

  • Ensure that SLA targets and commitments are met and a continuous improvements process met.     
  • Completion of checklists to ensure business operations in support of AM/NS wireless environment for supporting AM/NS crane and handheld wireless devices.             
  • Configure, install, and perform upgrades of Cisco hardware and equipment throughout the site.       
  • Work on specific transformation or improvement activities or projects, alongside other team members to progress critical transformation or improvement projects.                                                                                                                                                                 

 

Education and Accreditation:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Sciences or 4 years’ experience working continuously in support of Cisco WAN/LAN's and the appropriate equipment/communication technologies.
  • Net+ certification.
  • CCNA certification.

 

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience with Cisco wireless technologies.
  • Experience with Cisco HA and redundancy operations.
  • Experience on Cisco network environment, including knowledge of installing Cisco switches, routers, WAP’s and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of Cisco series 7000, 6500, 5000, 3700, 3600, 3500 switches.
  • Knowledge of Cisco 5500 series wireless controllers, WISM, 1200 ,2600, 3600 and 1500 series wireless access points.
  • Cisco Mobility Services Engine (MSE) and Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences (CMX).
  • Experience with configuring SSIDs, strong encryption, authentication, authentication between the client and the network using pre-shared keys or Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP), VPNs, WPA combined with MAC ACLs.
  • Working knowledge of the following network technologies: BGP, OSPF, vPC, EtherChannel, Spanning Tree, QoS, RADIUS, TACACS+, IPsec, SNMPv1/v2c/v3, IP Subnetting, 802.1q trunking, STP, VTP, VPN, NTP, VSS, CAPWAP, LLWAP, WorkGroup Bridge, Netflow.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco ASA5500 Next Generation firewalls and Firepower firewall, AAA, ISE, Radius, IAS, QOS, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of wireless security and operations.
  • IP routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP) and redistribution.
  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure.
  • Cisco Application Visibility and Control (AVC), Network- Based Application Recognition 2 (NBAR-2) engine, Cisco’s deep packet inspection (DPI) capability.
  • VLAN assignment, QoS, ACL, Cisco Wireless Controller System (WCS), wireless intrusion prevention system (IPS), wireless access points (CAPWAP).
  • Wired speed, non-blocking performance for 802.11n and optimized for 802.11ac networks.
  • Cisco VOIP, UCS, including phone, Call Manager.
  • Experience with managing and maintaining Checkpoint firewalls.
  • Working knowledge with at least three (3) years on the following systems: Unix/Linux, Cisco IOS, and Windows servers.
  • Experience in a high volume, 24/7 production environment with uptime of 99.996% is a definite plus.
  • Experience with Visio.
