DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

The Mechanical & Piping Specialist will support the Complex II EAF/Caster Project, leading mechanical and piping activities for the EAF, Caster, water systems, and related equipment from design through startup. This role provides technical and field leadership, coordinates project execution, and ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with engineering standards and company requirements.

 

The Basics

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering with 10 years of relevant industrial experience, or a Trade School Diploma with 20 years of relevant industrial experience, preferably in steelmaking, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or large-scale capital projects
  • Experience with mechanical and piping systems in a heavy industrial environment
  • Experience troubleshooting heavy industrial mechanical and/or piping systems
  • Experience working with contractors and coordinating multiple crafts
  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment, piping systems, valves, pumps, hydraulic systems, and industrial utilities
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, piping, equipment, P&ID, and engineering drawings
  • Experience coordinating engineering, construction, maintenance, and operations teams

 

 

The Extras

  • Experience with EAF, continuous casting, steelmaking, or other heavy industrial processes preferred
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Experience with project execution from concept through commissioning
  • Knowledge of company construction guides, specifications, and manuals
  • Knowledge of welding processes, procedures, and inspection requirements
  • Knowledge of ASME Codes, piping standards, and applicable mechanical standards
  • Experience with piping fabrication, installation, testing, flushing, hydrotesting, and commissioning
  • Familiarity with mechanical equipment installation, alignment, lubrication, and commissioning

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Provide mechanical and piping technical support for the Complex II EAF/Caster Project, including EAF, Caster, FES, water systems, and associated auxiliary systems
  • Support mechanical and piping activities from concept development and engineering through procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and startup
  • Act as the mechanical and piping liaison between engineering, estimating, project management, construction, maintenance, operations, and contractors
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment layouts, piping specifications, and construction documents
  • Ensure mechanical and piping installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
  • Coordinate mechanical and piping work with electrical, instrumentation, civil, structural, refractory, and other disciplines
  • Coordinate the work of different crafts, company departments, vendors, and contractors to maintain project schedule and execution priorities
  • Provide field support for equipment installation, piping fabrication and installation, welding, alignment, pressure testing, flushing, inspection, and commissioning
  • Identify construction, installation, and design issues and work with engineering and project teams to develop practical solutions
  • Support equipment and piping system commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and turnover to operations and maintenance
  • Participate in project walkdowns, inspections, punch-list activities, and final system acceptance
  • Conduct safety inspections and participate in incident investigations and reports
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with company safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Assist in the development and improvement of mechanical and piping maintenance procedures
  • Support maintenance execution teams by providing technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance
  • Ensure work order reporting and documentation are accurate and complete
  • Assist with contractor coordination, onboarding, and electronic timekeeping training
  • Ensure contractor timekeeping is accurate and submitted punctually
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project requirements
  • Support development of project schedules, work plans, estimates, and execution strategies as required
