Mechanical Maintenance Specialist

Created in February 2014 through a 50/50 joint venture of the world’s largest and second largest steelmakers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel Corporation, AM/NS Calvert is located in Calvert, AL.  Our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products for the automotive, pipe and tube, appliance/HVAC, service center and construction industries in the NAFTA market.  

AM/NS Calvert products are marketed in NAFTA through managing joint venture partner ArcelorMittal.

 

 

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Analyzes reasons for production disturbances in cooperation with other maintenance and production personnel
  • Troubleshoots unscheduled maintenance issues
  • Researches, Develops, and Coordinates Work Orders through completion  

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:          

  • Responsible for reliability, maintenance, and improvement of mechanical equipment
  • Coordinates, trains, and leads maintenance technicians for special tasks and responsibilities
  • Leads, supports, participates in, and develops improvement programs and project groups
  • Supports conducting regular analysis and data preparation of the maintenance process concerning costs, quality, availability, weak spot analysis, future development, etc.
  • Supports increasing and optimizing maintenance activities concerning time, cost and resources
  • Support management in optimizing quality, cost, availability and performance of equipment
  • Continuous know-how exchange with other technicians (electrical, mechanical, production, quality)
  • Ensure spare part availability and completeness of technical documentation
  • Responsible for scheduling, planning and execution of short and long-term maintenance activities and securing cost and availability effective preventive maintenance
  • Prepare and attend meetings and briefings on the maintenance and production situation
  • Analyze reasons for production disturbances in cooperation with other maintenance and productions personnel
  • On call duty rotation responsibilities

EDUCATION & ACCREDITATION:  

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or combination of post-secondary education and related experience         

 

KNOWLEDGE:    

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance or project engineering in a heavy industrial environment
  • In depth knowledge of mechanical equipment- ability to troubleshoot industrial equipment; pumps, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, rotating equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and general computer proficiency

 

SKILLS: 

  • In depth Experience with SAP CMMS (computerized maintenance management systems)
  • Strong understanding in Reliability Excellence, TPM, or other Reliability programs
  • Experience with AutoCad / Solid Works
  • Experience or design knowledge of coil transport systems, pickling lines, rolling mills, roll shop equipment, and/or slitting lines
  • Business economics, and six sigma knowledge (black belt)
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to competently handle a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal communications skills, written and verbal
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic and displays a high degree of professionalism
  • Interest and ability to work at our site location in Calvert, Alabama

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads.
