OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY/PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provide technical knowledge to assist maintenance and production personnel in the implementation of equipment/system improvements. Coordinate third part Engineering companies.



  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution required; Emphasis in power systems preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering in industrial environment, working with both low voltage and medium voltage electrical power distribution applications up to 34.5kV
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) or immediate eligibility for P.E. Licensure
  • SKM or similar software experience on power system studies including load flow, short-circuit analysis, protective device coordination, arc flash hazard analysis and harmonic analysis



  1. Participate as part of the Project Team on third party Electrical Engineering and Construction for the new Melt Shop. Ensure the new facility is designed for optimal operability and maintenance of Power Distribution System
  2. Provide technical support and consultancy to the management structure in Power System related decisions
  3. Quality review of construction activities pertaining to Electrical Equipment installation, including cables, switchgears and switchyards, motor control centers (MCCs), panel boards, transformers and accessories, Statcom, protection system, power meters, lighting, from low voltage up to 34.5kV
  4. Coordinate Engineering activities to support maintenance areas in the implementation of System/Equipment modifications and/or improvements, including technical analysis, proposals and alternatives evaluation, cost estimates, diligence, factory testing and commissioning
  5. Guarantee the technical support for the project management group, from the feasibility study phase to the coordination of the final acceptance tests, ensuring the technical quality, as well as ensuring the correct technical documentation after changes
  6. Establish the minimum technical requirements necessary to purchase or modify equipment and/or systems by maintaining technical standards based on national, international and/or corporate standards, incorporating new technologies whenever necessary
  7. Provide regular and timely updates to internal customers
  8. Coordinate and execute multiple projects with minimal supervision
  9. Prepare and present reports and findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  10. Observe safety, review accident/incident reports and assist in investigations as required
  11. Lead, support, participate in, and develop improvement programs and project groups
  12. Support management in optimizing quality, cost, availability and performance of equipment
  13. Coordinate and direct personnel as required

  • Knowledge of regulations mandated by the International Electrical Testing Association (NETA), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA-70E), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and other applicable standards, regulations and guidelines
  • Proficient in control schematics and wiring diagrams for medium voltage power distribution systems
  • Knowledge of EAF power distribution system
  • Excellent communications skills working with both professionals, operations personnel, and construction trades
  • General Microsoft Office and computer skills
  • Technical Writing skills
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to competently handle a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic and displays a high degree of professionalism
  • Interest and ability to work at our site location in Calvert, Alabama
