DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

The ideal candidate ensures technical excellence in an electrical steel test lab through expertise in metallurgy and materials science. Key duties include performing complex tests, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining accuracy, safety, and compliance. The role also demands strong problem-solving ability, team leadership, and a focus on quality, efficiency, customer satisfaction, and sustainability.

 

The Basics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a metallurgical, materials testing, or steel industry laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical steel testing methods and their importance in ensuring manufacturability and reliability.
  • Basic understanding of electrical steel properties and its role in magnetic performance, energy efficiency, and mechanical durability.
  • Ability to apply and interpret test results to support low energy loss applications in electrical devices.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and certifications (ISO/IEC 17025, ASTM, A2LA) to ensure compliance and accreditation.
  • Awareness of application needs in power generation, automotive (electric motors), and renewable energy systems.

THE EXTRAS:

  • Knowledge and experience with LIMS, SAP and MES preferred

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Oversee laboratory tests and analysis of processed electrical steel to collect information on composition, structure, and mechanical properties, and utilize the results to inform decisions.
  • Provide insights to the NOES Operations and Operations Technology teams to help optimize production and ensure materials meet customer specifications.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of standardized electrical steel testing requirements and ensure compliance within the NOES metallurgical lab.
  • Assist in investigating and resolving production issues related to material properties, performance, or quality of electrical steel.
  • Assist in the development of new work instructions pertaining to lab operations and drive optimization of said work instructions.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of requirements to maintain all laboratory accreditations and verifications.
  • Ensure all lab processes and work comply with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, monitor KPIs, and optimize processes for quality, cost, and compliance.
