Roll Shop Specialist (Cold Rolled Mill)

Created in February 2014 through a 50/50 joint venture of the world’s largest and second largest steelmakers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, AM/NS Calvert is located in Calvert, Ala. Our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products for the automotive, pipe and tube, appliance/HVAC, service center and construction industries in the NAFTA market.

AM/NS Calvert products are marketed in NAFTA through managing joint venture partner ArcelorMittal.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

The optimal hire for this position is responsible for maintaining equipment and overall reliability of the CRM and HDGL area roll quality.

The Basics:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Roll Shop, maintenance, or project engineering in a heavy industrial environment
• Ability to understand and troubleshoot different types of industrial equipment: Radial bearings, thrust bearings, all chocks in a roll shop setting along with an emphasis eddy current detection and ultra-sonic testing
• In depth knowledge of mechanical equipment
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

The Extras:

• Working knowledge of SAP preferred
• Working knowledge of maintenance data trending software (IBA) is preferred
• Possesses Steel Industry experience
• Evaluation of performance data
• Investigation of all delays
• Supports supervision of all operation personnel of the CRM & HDGL
• Investigates quality issues
• Interacts with maintenance on scheduled and unscheduled repairs
• Tracks and communicate KPIs
• Demonstrated knowledge of CRM & HDGL operating practices and technology

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

• Responsible for all Mechanical Equipment in the CRM Roll Shop Area
• Ensuring equipment reliability to achieve business requirements
• Reach yearly goals set by the Roll Shop Manager
• Optimizes the mill operation in terms of productivity, quality, capacity
• Report all unplanned delays to the Roll Shop Manager
• Initiates and follows up with process improvement activities      
• Continuous planning and organizing of outages, including ordering, and maintaining adequate operational spares parts and equipment. 
• Interacting with vendors and service companies to provide on time and cost effective
  operations and maintenance service. 
• Schedule all outside contractor personnel when needed, to maintain the Roll Shop
  equipment efficiently. 
• Work closely with operations personnel to reduce downtime and improve equipment utilization.
• Assure all contractor employees adhere to company safety rules. 
• Work closely with the Roll Shop Manager to manage the departmental budget.
• Work closely with the Roll Shop Manager to develop and manage the departmental capital plans, along with Roll Shop purchases
•  Drive continuous improvement projects.
• Interface with the workforce regarding safety, costs, productivity, and scheduling. 
• Responsible for insuring completion of jobs as well as scheduling follow up work in areas of responsibility.
• Ultra-sonic inspection of cracked or spalled rolls and report taking. Arranging into a presentation at an executive level. 
• Attend manager meetings when directed by Roll Shop Manager. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Supports CRM, HDGL, & SPM
• Conducts product trials through CRM, HDGL, & SPM
• Training of crew on shift and development of training
• Responsible for safety activities within the CRM Roll Shop
• Conducts Gemba walks weekly

YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Office and Industrial setting in the Cold Roll Mill
• Gulf coast region in Calvert, AL
• Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
• Workdays typically start at 6:00 a.m.
• Weekly Outages are expected to ensure smooth start-up

• Annual Outages are expected to be a weeklong, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and ensure smooth start-up
