DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

The ideal candidate will provide process support through scrap and alloy receiving and melting and refining within the highly automated steelmaking facility to meet the business goals of AM/NS Calvert.

We are looking for a Scrap and Alloy Specialist to serve as the primary point of contact between our company and our scrap and slag service provider and to coordinate alloy receiving. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the scrap and alloy management process, including material analysis, logistics, and regulatory compliance. The Scrap and Alloy Specialist will work closely with internal departments, including production, quality assurance, logistics, and accounting, to ensure that scrap and alloy materials are effectively managed and utilized.

   

   

 

The Basics:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Engineering, Business administration, or related field; OR equivalent experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as an engineer, specialist, or similar position
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in scrap and alloy management, including experience with market analysis, contract negotiation, and logistics management
  • Strong decision-making, analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Computer skills to include SAP and Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards related to scrap and alloy materials, such as ISO 9001, Environmental and OSHA regulations

  • Steelmaking experience is preferred
  • Management experience preferred

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Monitor the process of the scrap and slag service provider and advise as needed for adjustments to achieve results
  • Verify the reports of the scrap and slag quality and quantity
  • Maintain strong communications with the steelmaking shop to ensure scrap mixes are meeting the required goals
  • Developing and maintaining an effective team that is responsible for all scrap movements, slag processing, scrap processing, and receiving of materials
  • Lead investigations to improve the scrap and slag service in regards to efficiency and overall quality
  • Lead the steelmaking area logistic movements to ensure safety, efficiency, and effectiveness and coordinating logistics outside of Steelmaking as needed
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between our company and our scrap and slag service provider including coordinating with the scrap and alloy service provider to ensure timely delivery and pickup of materials and processing of materials, including managing inventory levels and scheduling transportation
  • Manage all aspects of the scrap and alloy management process, including material analysis, logistics, and regulatory compliance
  • Work closely with internal departments, including production, quality assurance, logistics, and accounting, to ensure that scrap and alloy materials are effectively managed and utilized
  • Manage the scrap and slag service provider to ensure timely, accurate, and on-time movement of materials to effectively support the steelmaking facility
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to scrap and alloy materials, including inventory levels and quality data
  • Analyze and evaluate the quality of scrap and alloy materials to ensure they meet specifications and regulatory requirements
  • Analyze logistics around Steelmaking to ensure safe and efficient movements of scrap and slag service provider heavy equipment and deliveries

 

 

YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Industrial setting and office setting in steelmaking facility
  • The first year will be construction and commissioning of the facility and processes
  • Gulf coast region in Calvert, AL
  • Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
