Technician, Power Distribution (Maintenance)

Located in Calvert, 35 miles north of Mobile, Alabama, our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades in the North America market. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: Monitoring the Medium voltage grid and electrical, Crane, HVAC troubleshooting and repairs.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:          

  • Maintain a high standard of safety awareness of medium voltage switchgear, switching, troubleshooting and repairs
  • Report to Shift Coordinator (energy consumptions, problems, suggestions)
  • Work in a team environment
  • Participate in tendering process and be responsible for administrating electrical contract during construction installation
  • Prepare and participate in installation, check-out, start-up and commissioning of New electrical equipment
  • Develop long term maintenance programs
  • Perform various electrical, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs as needed in the assigned Central Maintenance area
  • Elect. Testing, Infrared testing, Crane work, HVAC work
  • Maintaining NFPA 70E compliance
  • Fulfills the commitment to ensure a safe and healthy work environment
  • Fulfills the responsibilities required to achieve the Quality Commitment
  • Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by fostering an environment that embodies trust and respect
  • Ensures working knowledge of competencies as defined in ISO 9001:2015/IATF 16949 and ISO 14001:2015

 

EDUCATION & ACCREDITATION:

  • Prefer certification to operate medium voltage switchgears
  • In-house training provided

 

KNOWLEDGE:   

  • Good Knowledge of Electrical Design
  • Power systems, motor controls PLC’s, HMI’s, instrumentation common to power distribution and power controls
  • Develop and implement programs for start-up, commissioning of new equipment and long-term maintenance
  • Prefer 5-10 years’ experience in medium or high voltage facilities, or Industrial electrical maintenance
  • Knowledge of SAP preferred
  • Prefer 1-5 years’ experience of control work and trouble shooting

 

SKILLS: 

  • Ability to be a team member and work with all plant areas to ensure that power interruptions are planned and scheduled to keep unplanned downtime at zero
  • Must demonstrate a professional level of communication skills when interacting with different plant departments and Alabama Power Company
  • Ability to work safely under pressure
  • Computer skills, to include Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to competently handle a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal communications skills, written and verbal
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic and displays a high degree of professionalism
  • Interest and ability to work at our site location in Calvert, Alabama 

                

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Mill Environment

                    

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Work 12 hour rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays plus extended hours for scheduled shutdowns and call in support if necessary
