We are looking for a Tax Manager


We are seeking a capable Tax Manager to play a pivotal role within a dynamic environment.  The Tax Manager will work with the Head of Tax and other colleagues to manage the ArcelorMittal North America US tax function, with a primary focus on managing tax compliance & reporting as well as controversy.


Responsibilities for the position include the following:

  • Foster a performance-driven culture through personal effort and by example as well as through adherence to the Company’s values and strategies. 
  • Supervise internal processes as well as work of outside advisors in providing recurring and nonrecurring services.
  • Manage core aspects of the company’s tax compliance, tax accounting & reporting, and tax controversy.  Heavy emphasis on federal & state income tax, with exposure to international tax & transfer pricing as well as state & local tax (e.g., property tax, sales & use tax, etc.).
  • Oversee tax financial reporting process with the support of the outside service provider, including calculating tax balances, reporting through the G/L and the company’s BPM-based consolidation system, and managing audits of financial statement tax balances by the external auditor.
  • Ensure compliance of internal controls for accounting for income taxes, including annual review and adjustment of control design as well as quarterly execution of controls.  Monitor, maintain, and improve tax department systems and processes to ensure compliance with established internal control requirements.
  • Manage income/franchise & property tax return compliance process in collaboration with outside service provider(s), including planning, coordination, preparation, and review.  Responsible for managing the tax calendar while ensuring the smooth flow of tax filings, for calculating & making timely tax payments, and for projecting annual/quarterly/monthly forecasts for management reporting.
  • Assist in recommending, formulating, and implementing company tax policies and procedures including tax process improvement projects and streamline/link data collection of tax information.
  • Manage tax controversy in areas of income tax, property tax, and sales & use tax, including responding to information requests, coordinating with internal personnel and outside advisors, and formulating exam strategy to manage the audit process as well as tax risks.
  • Assess the tax implications of various business scenarios, including the tax technical analysis as well as projections of potential tax impact.
  • Manage special projects, including tax planning and tax risk management, such as legal entity restructuring, M&A due diligence, intercompany transactions, financings, earnings and profits calculations, implementation of new tax rules, tax credits & incentives, etc.
  • Liaise with non-tax colleagues as well as corporate (parent company) personnel on tax & accounting issues.
  • Serve as tax representative on cross-functional work groups (e.g., accounting, treasury, finance, legal, M&A, etc.). 
  • Participate in global initiatives & cross-border projects, working with US & international tax & non-tax colleagues.
  • Monitor legislative & regulatory developments that may impact the company's tax positions and/or compliance requirements.
  • Pursue innovation and best practices by establishing a personal development program that includes attending educational seminars, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Any other duties/responsibilities as may be required.
  • Limited travel, primarily within the US.


Experience Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of relevant tax experience;
  • Extensive income tax compliance & financial reporting experience;
  • Self-motivated & detail-oriented; and
  • Strong analytical, organizational, technical, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in a Big 4 accounting firm and/or large corporate environment;
  • Tax controversy experience; and/or
  • Tax research & planning experience.
  • Knowledge of state & local tax or international tax a plus.


Education Requirements:

            Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in accounting, finance, business or related field.

Preferred Requirements:

JD, MBA, CPA, or Masters of Taxation
