The role: 

ArcelorMittal Global Research & Development Center is looking for a highly skilled and motivated engineer to be a part of the team focused on materials, materials testing and automotive design, and supports ArcelorMittal’s strategic objectives and steel product portfolio, so that sheet steel products remain the material of choice, and ArcelorMittal the preferred steel supplier. The engineer will be an integral member of the Steel Solutions and Co-engineering team at ArcelorMittal and will be required to work primarily from an automaker’s engineering facilities in Ohio.

 

Job Duties:

  • Promote material grades for lightweight steel solutions for automotive OEMs’ future vehicle architectures utilizing strong knowledge of materials, design and assembly
  • Test and evaluate product attributes of steel grades, including mechanical testing, joining, forming etc. to assess material performance for specific applications
  • Utilize Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) simulations to develop, validate and enhance design concepts and applications of material grades for specific applications
  • Assist in activities pertaining to prototyping, testing, validation and correlation of body structure concepts
  • Recognize threats to steel from other materials (e.g. aluminum, composites, magnesium), help develop and promote competitive steel solutions
  • Establish strong, sustainable and positive relationships with product development engineers at our strategic automotive customers

 

Education Requirements:  Bachelors (Masters preferred) in Engineering or Applied Science in the field of Mechanical or Materials.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with mechanical testing of materials and parts
  • Knowledge of JIS, ASTM or equivalent testing standards
  • Exposure to automotive sheet steel products and manufacturing processes like stamping, roll-forming and welding
  • Knowledge of automotive body structure design and assembly
  • 2 years of relevant industry or university experience
  • Strong engineering, creative, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple demands
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and a high level of integrity
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision
  • Must be open to travel as required to ArcelorMittal’s facilities in USA and Canada

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Knowledge of CAD
  • Knowledge of CAE
