DUTIES: Responsible for managing a program to generate welding data for ArcelorMittal’s sheet steel products using test methods used by the automotive industry in North America. Responsible for conducting Research and Development (R&D) activities, working collaboratively with other ArcelorMittal Research and Development facilities and with customers in the area of welding and joining of sheet steel products. Duties include: managing weld testing program to generate and analyze data in support of product qualifications and provide test results in a timely manner; defining, planning, and conducting R&D activities on automotive welding processes for emerging advanced high strength steel grades so as to develop efficient joining solutions for complex microstructures; providing support to customers experiencing welding problems with ArcelorMittal sheet steel products; and maintaining compliance with the company’s Health & Safety policy. 10% time travelling to customer facilities and other ArcelorMittal R&D centers to participate in technical exchanges.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering. The position requires demonstrated experience with welding processes and metallurgy which may have been gained as part of a Master’s degree program. Must also have demonstrated ability with each of the following: welding processes and control; metallographic characterization of welds; welding metallurgy; advanced high strength steels (AHSS) for automotive body structure applications; and welding solution development to optimize weld quality. Employer will accept experience gained concurrently. Will accept experience gained before, during, or after Master’s program. 10% time travelling to customer facilities and other ArcelorMittal R&D centers to participate in technical exchanges. Full-time, position located in East Chicago, IN.
