2023 Summer Student Opportunities

Manufacturing Operations & Plant Stores

Shift Position

Background

 

ArcelorMittal Dofasco is now accepting applications for Summer Student positions in various Manufacturing Business Units and Plant Stores starting May 2023. Duties may include entry level work stations, general housekeeping, painting and data entry. Job responsibilities will vary depending on the placement of the student.

 

Job responsibilities may include:

 

  • Adhere to and fulfill all employee responsibilities set out in the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Health & Safety Policy/Program and COVID-19 protocols
  • Perform daily maintenance and upkeep of produciton facilities and assets
  • Operate and handle a variety of handheld tools and materials
  • Perform administrative support and data entry activities
  • Actively participate as a member of the team
  • Perform internal duties as dictated within the department requirements
  • Support safety and good housekeeping practices
  • Support department goals and objectives

 

Manufacturing Operations

  • Participate in daily production activities as a Team Member at #2 Coke Plant which will include: 
    • Shoveling coke spillage from the Pusher and Coke side benches
    • Using a 6 and 12ft scraper to clean door channels and door jambs (sectional cleaning)
    • Using a broom to clean the benches
    • General housekeeping
  • Participate in daily production activities in the Ironmaking Business Unit as a Stockhouse Operator (Blast Furnace) or Desulph Operator duties (Hot Rail) which will include: 
    • Operating a scale car to select and weigh the appropriate raw materials to feed the process 
    • Inspect the stockhouse equipment and process 
    • Reducing the Sulphur content in iron by injecting Calcium carbide and Magnesium into the liquid iron

 

Criteria for Selection:

 

  • Currently enrolled in full-time studies at a university or college and returning to school full-time in September 2023.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be available to work full time from beginning of May 2023 to end of August 2023.
  • Preference will be given to those students enrolled in post-secondary education closest to graduation and who have not previously worked at ArcelorMittal Dofasco as a Summer Student.
  • Students currently in highschool and attending post-secondary in September are not eligible to apply. 
  • Students who have previously worked at ArcelorMittal Dofasco as a Summer Student are eligible to apply.

 

Applicants must be able to:

 

  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (Safety glasses, steel toed boots, hard hat, respirator, hearing protection, long sleeves and long pants)
  • May be required to operate equipment such as scissor lifts, pick-up trucks, etc.
  • Work 12 hour rotating shifts
  • Work at elevated heights 
  • Climb ladders and stairs
  • Occasional heavy lifting
  • Use various hand tools
  • Work indoors and outdoors in elevated temperatures and humidity
  • Work in environments that may be dusty and noisy

 

Hours of work: You must be available to work 8.5 hour day shifts (6:30 AM-3:00 PM) or a 12 hour day shift schedule (6:30 AM- 6:30 PM) which includes working alternate weekends. Schedule will depend on role and placement of the student.
