Metallurgy, Quality, and Continuous Improvement (MQCI) Business Unit

2025 Summer Student

 

About MQCI:

 

The science and engineering of metallurgy plays an important role in determining the properties equipment, processing practices, product features, applications, cost, marketing, and service strategy used in the manufacture and sale of ArcelorMittal Dofasco steel products. The MQCI Department links the metallurgical components within these activities to ensure that they are being applied in a manner that contributes to product quality, cycle time, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

The Testing labs provide timely and accurate testing services to internal and external customers to ensure compliance of ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s product quality requirements to meet customers’ demands. The summer student is involved but not limited to the following functions:

  • Adhere to and fulfill all employee responsibilities set out in the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Health & Safety Policy/Program.

  • Prepare steel samples from sheet using shears.

  • Utilize Lab software and barcode system to identify sample preparation requirements and maintain sample traceability.

  • Working in an industrial shop environment.

  • Punching steel samples from sheet using punch presses.

  • Prepare test specimens and tubes using milling machines.

  • Requires heavy lifting (30-50lbs) and repetitive movements while standing.

  • Must be available to work full time until August 29, 2025.

 

Education & Experience:

 

  • Currently attending post-secondary education full-time and returning to school full-time in September 2025.

  • Must be able to work in an industrial laboratory environment.

  • Good communication skills

  • Self-motivated, team player

  • Detail oriented

 

Hours of Work: Rotating 12-hour shift schedule which will include days, nights, and alternating weekends. Must be willing to adjust this schedule, as need dictates.
