About the Position:

 

The Transportation Team is focused on sourcing and contracting with both trucking carriers and rail providers.   We are currently seeking a Buyer/Sr. Buyer who possesses a CCLP (CITT-Certified Logistics Professional) designation and has professional experience in the transportation sector, with a focus in the trucking market place, working with Customs, Incoterms, freight brokerage and steel freight logistics across North America.  

 

Overall Responsibility:

 

  • Apply the Purchase Order Fulfillment, (P.O.F.), process to procure goods and services for assigned commodities and manage commodity costs through appropriate analysis, negotiations and price management in order to meet service level expectations of the P.O.F process stakeholders and independently lead significant purchase initiatives with high business impact.
  • In addition, for By-Products Buyer, sell by-products, wastes or surplus assets as specified in accordance with marketing and sales procedures and provide customer focus with an optimal level of customer service

 

Accountabilities:

 

  • Provide coordination and work direction for Procurement Team resources.
  • Lead in major negotiation activities and supplier cost reduction efforts resulting in quantifiable savings to support the overall Purchasing Business Plan.
  • Lead individuals and teams through the development of relationship building with stakeholders, including Suppliers, Business Units, and all teams within Purchasing & Logistics.
  • Manage the Purchase Order Fulfillment process for assigned commodities through adherence to the supporting processes: negotiations, invoicing, price management, supplier management, inventory management, contract design, receipt of goods, Purchase Quality System.
  • Prepare and lead bid specifications, analyze quotes, evaluate products/services and award purchase orders consistent with the Purchase Order Fulfillment process.
  • Demonstrate the use of total cost of ownership analysis for assigned commodities also applying Negotiation, Price management processes and analysis techniques.
  • Act as the lead facilitator to resolve conflict between the plant and suppliers by managing contracts and resolving problems in delivery, scheduling, scope changes, price issues and quality concerns.
  • Communicate information to stakeholders relative to contracts, bid arrangements, services, guarantees, warrantees, prices, etc.
  • Evaluate and record supplier performance, identify corrective action, set improvement targets and recommend appropriate recognition to suppliers and Sourcing.
  • Increase revenue opportunities for inclusion in commodity sales plans.

 

Knowledge:

 

  • Advanced knowledge of assigned commodities and the fundamentals of the supply markets and supply base are required.
  • Working knowledge of commodity sourcing procedures and applicable laws, standards and procedures of assigned commodities is required.
  • Working knowledge of Purchasing Business Systems, long-term purchasing strategy, annual procurement goals is required.
  • Working knowledge of all Purchase Order Fulfillment processes is required.
  • Basic knowledge of how the Manufacturing process operates in relation to assigned commodities is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of assigned commodities and the fundamentals of the supply markets and supply base are required.
  • Advanced knowledege of steel freight logistics across North America is required. 

 

Skills:

 

  • Good personal computer standard corporate software applications and applicable systems skills are required.
  • Good problem solving skills through economic and financial analysis is required.
  • Excellent negotiation skills are required.
  • Good project management, time management and organizational skills are required.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills are required.
  • Good coaching and mentoring skills are required

 

Education & Experience:

 

  • Minimum 4 year University Degree in Engineering/Business is required.
  • Must possess a minimum of 4+ years of steel freight sourcing experience. 
  • CCLP (CITT-Certified Logistics Professional) designation is considered an asset. 
  • Work experience in the Transportation Sector with a focus on steel freight logistics is required. 
  • Professional experience working with Customs, Incoterms and freight brokerage is considered an asset. 

 

Work Environment:   

 

  • Office environment.
  • This position is eligible for remote work in accordance with our current Flexible Work Options Policy. 

 

Hours of Work:

 

  • Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads.
