Asset Engineering Coordinator

Our onboarding process for Asset Engineering Coordinators emphasizes learning, exploration, and integration with our Manufacturing Teams. During the initial year, employees will engage in a sequence of job rotations that offers hands-on experience in Operations, Maintenance and Technology.

What is Manufacturing Technology?

 

Our Manufacturing Technology division is responsible for developing and enhancing work processes and systems to maintain ArcelorMittal Dofasco as a leader in the North American Steel Industry. Here, you are actively engaged in one of the 10 different steel processing and service business units focusing on Process Engineering, Asset Engineering, or Product Quality.  

 

The Asset Engineering team is a critical role for the manufacturing assets and requires the extensive application of continuous improvement methodologies. As an Asset Engineering Coordinator, your fundamental role would be to investigate equipment failures and find creative and innovative ways to reduce these failures in partnership with the Operations and Maintenance teams. You will also be required to support various improvement initiatives within the business unit following Maintenance Special Items (MSI) and/or the Capital process. You will be an active participant in achieving ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s strategic objectives in the areas of Health and Safety, Environment, Energy, Production, Quality & Yield, and Cost.

 

The successful candidate’s job title (Coordinator / Sr Coordinator / Specialist / Sr Specialist) will be dependent on their qualifications and work experience.

 

Accountabilities:

 

The Asset Engineering Coordinator will work alongside a team of engineers, technologists, trades and manufacturing personnel to improve equipment reliability and capability.  They will identify and manage asset reliability or risks that could adversely affect throughput, efficiency, and product quality.  The candidate is involved in but not limited to the following: 

 

  • Participate with operations and maintenance in the troubleshooting and resolution of process/equipment problems.   
  • Evaluate equipment failures and consequences using formal Root Cause Analysis to develop appropriate corrective actions, controls and training to eliminate/mitigate potential failures.   
  • Lead cross-functional teams to ensure product and process quality as issues arise. 
  • Analyze asset performance and make recommendations for improvement. 
  • Lead design changes to improve asset performance.
  • Communicate recommendations to leadership, production and maintenance. 
  • Develop, plan and execute asset improvement projects.  
  • Remain fluent and up to date on new developments in processes, product, equipment and technologies for the manufacturing and processing of Steel.

 

Required:

 

  • 4-year University Degree in Engineering or 3-year Engineering Technologist College Diploma is preferred. 

 

Desired Skills & Experience:

 

  • Experience in manufacturing or a steel-related industry
  • General manufacturing, maintenance and/or equipment knowledge and experience
  • Understanding of sheet steel manufacturing processes
  • Experience with project management in engineering/construction projects
  • Understanding of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) or World Class Continuous Improvement activities (Lean Manufacturing)
  • Working knowledge of formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Knowledge in statistical analysis techniques and statistical software tools (Minitab, R, Excel)
  • Understand equipment (mechanical and electrical) failure mechanisms and modes
  • Mechanical design skills and practical equipment knowledge
  • Mechanical aptitude and a “hands-on” approach to problem solving
  • Knowledge of Equipment Reliability concepts and practices
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with a diverse workforce
  • Ability to influence and lead others

 

 

Work Environment:

 

Manufacturing Plant and Office environment as required.  

Required to wear personal safety equipment while in the plant.

 

The manufacturing plant environment includes exposure to dust, chemicals, temperature changes, noise, and large industrial equipment.

 

Job Rotation:

 

In addition to the regular job duties, within the first year of employment, employees will participate in a job rotation program with our Operations and Maintenance teams. During these job rotations employees will be required to work 12-hour continental shifts (days and nights).

 

Hours of Work:

 

Normal hours of work for this position are “days”, Monday to Friday. Extended hours are required to meet project deadlines and shutdowns.

ArcelorMittal Dofasco is a 24/7 facility.

Infrequent company travel varying from local to international may be required.
