CTS Machine Shop - Electrician




CTS Machine Shop  


This group consists of 2 Millwrights, and 1 Electrician who are responsible for carrying out preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of machine tool equipment.  


As an Electrician working in the Machine Shop you will be part of a high-performing and collaborative team responsible for all electrical aspects of the PM program and any reactive work. You will be expected to leverage your background and experiences to continuously improve upon our maintenance programs to ensure the overall reliability of the equipment within the Machine shop and troubleshooting of equipment.  


Role Accountabilities:  


To disassemble, inspect, repair, replace, install, and maintain all equipment within the Machine Shop. The successful candidate will perform preventative maintenance in conjunction with the mechanical trade and assist in mechanical work.  


  • Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance functions on all equipment required  

  • Integrate information into clear reports to convey out of spec conditions. 

  • Perform inspections, repairs, rebuilds in the Machine Shop 

  • Must be able to work as a self-directed, motivated team member in a fully integrated manufacturing environment 

  • Support various trades and departments within the Gage Avenue Property for miscellaneous repairs, installations, and isolations  


Desired Skills and Experience:   


  • 442A or 309A Certificate of Qualification or Interprovincial Red Seal preferred.  

  • Experience troubleshooting CNC equipment, controls, lathes, milling machines is preferred.  

  • Advanced trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills 

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Candidates must be willing and able to work at heights 

  • Capable of physically demanding work 

  • Mechanical aptitude is an asset.  

  • Proficient at reading and interpreting drawings  

  • Self-starter with the ability to follow directions and work in a team environment with minimal supervision  

  • Basic personal computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook), CMMS 


Work Environment: 


  • Heavy industrial environment, requiring 100% of time per week in the Shop  

  • Candidate may be required to work in the plant and support workforce sharing  

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment 

  • The use of respirators and standard plant safety equipment may also be required 

  • Required to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding to access elevations, able to crouch for periods of time, push, pull, lift and turn while carrying tools, material and equipment in various parts of the facilities 

  • Will be required to work at heights occasionally  


Hours of Work: 


  • Core hours will be 06:30-3:00 Days (Monday to Friday) 

  • Extended hours may be required for shutdowns, emergency breakdown work.
