I.T. Network Analyst

 

The IT Network group supports provisioning and management of the corporate local and wide area computer networks for the North America IT Shared Service.  IT Networks also participates in and leads standardization projects in the Americas.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

  • Support LAN, WAN, and WiFi infrastructure; including day to day changes, troubleshooting and support of existing infrastructure, as well as proactive work such as patching and security updates, capacity planning, and addressing inefficacies with current deployment in a predominantly Cisco environment
  • Assist in troubleshooting networking issues using various tools available to you
  • Supporting network related infrastructure that support network tools and services, with technologies that include Windows Servers, SNMP, RADIUS, configuration backup, packet capture, etc
  • Interface with users to identify business requirements to manage installation projects or service activities relating to networking
  • Interface regularly with IT, Process Automation, and operational technology groups to assist with various work efforts those groups are leading
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships with vendors who provide support, services and equipment for ArcelorMittal Dofasco
  • Adhere to proper IT support methods including proper documentation of systems and solutions, following all change management process requirements, as well as regularly updating trouble tickets and requests with proper case notes
  • Participate in North American and global network relationship synergies by providing support or knowledge sharing with counter parts at other ArcelorMittal plants
  • Regularly visit the plant floor, weekly or as required, to perform network related work in an industrial heavy manufacturing environment
  • Strict adherence to Dofasco safety procedures, and a constant awareness of safety, in all aspects of a job or task

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Computer Engineering, Computer Systems Technician, or similar
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience, encompassing:
    • Day to day support of enterprise networking with Cisco experience preferred
    • Wireless, LAN and WAN technology with common protocols in these areas
    • Using IT Service Management Software to document and track work
  • Working experience with common IT technologies such as server and network administration in both Linux and Windows, VMWare, and Citrix with a focus on network related technologies
  • Working knowledge of common IT hardware and services (end devices, printers, infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, etc)
  • Experience not required but considered an asset
    • VoIP with Cisco Call Manager
    • Packet level troubleshooting; experience with WireShark or similar type tool sets
    • Working with PLCs and OT network equipment

 

Knowledge and Skills:

 

  • Self-motivated and self-driven to manage work to advance our business and technical goals
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to demonstrates strong teamwork, communication, documentation and collaboration skills
  • Awareness of emerging IT trends and directions
  • Knowledge of computer network physical cabling mediums including both fiber optic cables and connectors and traditional copper cabling
  • Ability to learn new technologies and adapt them to current understanding of network practice
  • Competency with security concepts and VPN technologies and associated protocols
  • Knowledge not required but considered an asset
    • Foundational understanding of PLC’s and control systems

 

Work Environment: 
 

Office and plant environment.   The network at ArcelorMittal Dofasco spans the entire 325 hectare Hamilton campus, and includes over 500 sites in many buildings and facilities.  Although the office is the primary location of work, the successful candidate must be comfortable working throughout a heavy industrial environment.

 

Hours of Work: 

  • Standard Monday to Friday office hours
  • Occasional extended, paid hours as required to meet project deadlines or peak workloads
  • 24x7 on-call rotation as required with the rest of the team approximately every 4-5 weeks for 1 week
