Millwright (Day Shift)

Maintenance Rebuild Shop


We are looking for qualified, results driven Millwrights who want to be part of our maintenance shop team. Individuals are responsible for safely, efficiently, and effectively rebuilding, repairing, and troubleshooting equipment required for our manufacturing operations.


Our Central Trades and Services (CTS) Shop is made up of approximately 200 licensed tradespersons and apprentices who support specialty areas including:


General Repair Shop

  • Responsible for planning, prioritizing, disassembly, inspection, repair of all mechanical equipment required to support our Manufacturing Operations across our facility:
    • Pumps, Compressors, Fans, Blowers, Gearboxes
    • Specialty steelmaking equipment including mandrels, rolls, shears, side guides, coil cars, crane bogies and lifting equipment


Bearing Repair Shop

  • Responsible for planning, prioritizing, disassembly, and repair of over 1200 backup work roll chocks and bearings at our Finishing Mills
  • Provides on-site support regarding troubleshooting and repairs or major/large bearings


Hydraulic Repair Shop

  • Responsible for planning, prioritizing, disassembly, repair and testing of:
    • Hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, manifolds, and accumulators
    • Hot Mill Automatic Gauge Control cylinder assemblies
  • Rebuild/modify hydraulic units
  • Troubleshoot industrial and mobile equipment hydraulics and electronics


Machine Repair Aisle

  • Manage the removal and installation of all segments for the Steelmaking area shutdowns
  • Rebuild Steelmaking equipment including molds, segments, and oscillators
  • Rebuild sub-assemblies removed from equipment including rolls, sprays, gearboxes, rotary joints, oil/air, and grease lubrication blocks


Main Accountabilities


  • Perform mechanical maintenance functions on all equipment required to produce quality products for operating units within the Business Unit listed
  • Integrate information into clear reports to convey incidents or conditions
  • Performing reactive work trouble shooting and repairing production equipment on a daily basis, preventing or reducing unplanned equipment delays
  • Perform inspections, repairs, rebuilds in both shop and plant environment
  • Must be able to work as a self-directed, motivated team member in a fully integrated manufacturing environment




  • Industrial Mechanic Millwright - 433A Certificate of Qualification or Interprovincial Red Seal or Construction Millwright Certificate of Qualification – 426A
  • High school diploma or GED or Post-Secondary School Diploma


Required Skills and Experience


  • 3-5 years of experience working as a Millwright - previous shop specific experience is an asset
  • Previous experience rebuilding, inspecting, and troubleshooting equipment including pumps, compressors, cylinder assemblies, gearboxes, etc.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and is able effectively troubleshoot various equipment 
  • Passion for teamwork, ongoing learning, continuous improvement, and maintaining a respectful and safe environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional team members
  • Strong communication skills
  • Skillfully reads/interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Self-starter with the ability to follow directions and work in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Basic personal computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Capable of physically demanding work (both indoors and outdoors)


Work Environment


  • Heavy industrial environment - majority of time will be spent in a shop environment
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment as required
    • Personal protective equipment and tools will be provided to you including work boots, company issued clothing, etc.


Hours of Work


  • Core hours for this position are 06:30-15:00 (Monday to Friday)
  • Extended hours may be required for shutdowns, emergency breakdown work and call-in support. *


*Note - Supporting Maintenance Shutdowns and Projects


Millwrights who work in the Shop can be temporarily re-assigned to other areas of the manufacturing facility to support scheduled shutdowns throughout the year on an as required basis.


  • Trades people are scheduled outside of core hours when required to support the shutdown schedule. This could mean your start and end times may vary and require you to work 8-hour or 12-hour shifts (days, afternoons, nights).
  • If you are rescheduled (notice given well in advance, except for extreme circumstances in which as much notice as possible will be provided).
