Reliability Business Unit

 

Reliability Specialist / Senior Specialist, Central Reliability Team

(Permanent Position)

 

 

Overall Responsibility:

                                                       

  • Be deployed as required in manufacturing areas in need of reliability expertise.  Lead reliability improvement initiatives in these areas including:
    • Evaluate quality of Equipment Maintenance Program (EMP) and adherence to it. 
    • Select appropriate EMP improvement tools and lead implementation with area Ops, Maintenance and Tech personnel.
    • Act as reliability process subject matter expert and guide area in implementing reliability best practices into their systems.
    • Work closely with Engineering support groups – Man. Tech Equipment Engineering, CTS Technology, Central Engineering and Project Managers to ensure the reliability and maintainability of assigned equipment is being suitably addressed.
    • Monitor and track the reliability performance of assigned Asset equipment to achieve business plan delay rates and manufacturing targets.
    • Ensure appropriate failure analysis techniques are being applied appropriately and are of sufficient quality to determine root causes of equipment failures and initiate necessary corrective action to eliminate/reduce such failures.
  • Implement assigned portion of “Reliability Roadmap”, a multi-year initiative being launched within the central reliability group
  • Take a leadership role to develop and guide maintenance leadership companywide through the application of reliability and maintenance processes.

 

Accountabilities:

 

Lead Implementation of Reliability Initiatives Across Manufacturing

 

  • Lead implementation of reliability initiatives (e.g. EMP development on critical assets) in target business units until handover of ownership is appropriate. 
  • Lead initiatives within both Central Reliability Team and target business units as defined per ‘Reliability Roadmap’. E.g. develop reliability policy, establish a companywide view of online condition monitoring data.
  • Identify opportunities within business units for improved on-line equipment condition monitoring
  • Deliver Reliability Based Maintenance (RBM) training as to individuals of various roles within target Business Units.
  • Update and maintain AMD reliability roadmap

 

Monitor / Analyze / Troubleshoot Equipment Performance 

 

  • Able to assess the reliability performance (working ratio, delay rates etc.) of assigned manufacturing area equipment and identify gaps compared to benchmark
  • Able to assess the adequacy of the EMP – with the assistance and input of area team - looking at Failure Modes and Action Plans in APM and CMMS
  • Engage the correct resources for assisting area troubleshoot failure events (restore function) and guide team to identify the appropriate short-term counter measures
  • Assist area maintenance team with monitoring equipment alarm conditions effectively and provide technical guidance in eliminating non-technically based and non-value added indicators.
  • Lead assessment of area QA/QC practices and adherences to QA/QC plans to identify opportunities for improvement

 

Manage Equipment Risk

 

  • Guide area team in review of equipment condition and prioritization rankings ensuring the Reliability Specialists (RS) have compiled an accurate assessment.
  • Mentor RSs on this process
  • Ensure senior management has an accurate 5yr Maintenance Special Item (MSI) view that corresponds to the Equipment Condition Assessment/Asset Prioritization (ECA/AP)  
  • Is sought out within assigned area(s) and across Manufacturing Units as key mentor regarding our assessment of equipment.
  • Use external contacts to build a reference regarding area asset condition versus external benchmarks for similar equipment.

 

Equipment Maintenance Program

 

  • Mentor maintenance leadership and specialists on development of asset maintenance strategies in assigned area with minimal assistance from others
  • Audit technically based Equipment Maintenance Programs to ensure they are in place and that they are effective to achieve the required equipment reliability goals.
  • Guide area team in identifying reliability / performance gaps around specific critical equipment and develop action plans to close identified gaps.
  • Lead area maintenance resources through the FMEA process as a risk mitigation tool around maintenance programs
  • Provide technical guidance across business units around the application of Predictive techniques to achieve higher reliability levels.
  • Work with Central Reliability Sparing Lead to audit the sparing strategy for area assets – prepare a summary of spares risks for senior management on all critical equipment or systems that results in minimal risks while balancing the cost view of parts storage.  
  • Ensure all area EMPs within scope contain adequate requirements, standards, and procedures for equipment inspections and use of predictive technologies.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to EMP and sparing strategies for assigned equipment and lead these initiatives in order of priority.
  • Lead EMP adherence audits within assigned area to ensure adequate monitoring KPI’s are in place and being utilized throughout assigned area(s).

 

Work Management

 

  • Mentor area RSs and ATSs around work ID – ensuring all required EMP related work is properly captured in APM and CMMS work management systems
  • Provide guidance within area on prioritization of work for equipment outages
  • Provide guidance in the establishment and assignment of preventive maintenance procedures for the proper care of equipment.

 

Performance Benchmarking

 

  • Maintain awareness of the capability and demonstrated performance level of high criticality AMD equipment.  
  • Participate in benchmarking activities with external sites, create gap assessment reports and tactics to close gaps.

 

Education & Experience:

 

  • Three-year Technologist Diploma / Degree in the field of Mechanical, Electrical \ Control Systems, Industrial, Chemical, Environmental (Utilities).
  • Engineering Degree is considered a strong asset. 
  • 5+ years of Maintenance reliability experience is required.

 

Knowledge:

 

  • General area Manufacturing process knowledge and experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Equipment Reliability Methodologies including but not limited to the following:
    • Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) including EMP Development, Equipment Task Analysis
    • Understands how equipment (Mechanical & Electrical) fails and why
    • Understands the application of Predictive Maintenance technologies (Vibration, Thermography, Lubrication Analysis, Motor Current Analysis, etc.)
    • Understands the principles of proper lubrication as it applies to both mechanical and electrical equipment.
    • Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • Proficient knowledge of the reliability process.
  • Working knowledge of the FMEA Methodology.
  • Working Knowledge of how and why the manufacturing process interacts with equipment performance, understanding the relationship between equipment condition and process / product performance standards.
  • Working knowledge of industrial health and safety processes
  • Basic knowledge of business planning, and financial process
  • Understanding of environmental management process

  • Proven ability to work with groups of people to achieve positive results
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead individuals through the following sub-processes:

Work Environment:

 

  • Plant and Office environment as required.  Required to wear personal safety equipment while in the plant.

 

Hours of Work:

 

  • Normal hours of work for this position is “days”, Monday to Friday, with extended hours as required to meet project deadlines or resulting from periods of peak workload.
