Senior Project Coordinator, Asset Engineering

 

 

Background

 

Our Manufacturing Technology division is responsible for developing and enhancing work processes and systems to maintain ArcelorMittal Dofasco as a leader in the North American Steel Industry. As an employee in the Manufacturing Technology Department, you are assigned to one of 10 different steel processing and service business units in these various sections of engineering: Process Engineering, Asset Engineering and Product Quality. 

 

The fundamental role of the successful candidate would be to apply advanced Project Management Methodologies to the completion of capital or maintenance projects in support of Business Unit goals. In addition, you will: 


•    Work with Manufacturing and Maintenance teams to identify, plan and prioritize the design improvements within the Business Unit and to coordinate additional design work that will be completed by Engineering. 
•    Work with Engineering project managers to develop Investment Files and gain approval of Capex projects for the Business Unit.  Support Project Planning, Budgeting, Vendor Selection, Installation, Commissioning and Manufacturing Integration.
•    Support the development and update of the Business Unit long term Capital Plan

 

Accountabilities:

 

You will work alongside a team of engineers, technologists, trades, and manufacturing personnel to improve equipment reliability and capability.  They will identify and manage asset reliability or risks that could adversely affect throughput, efficiency, and product quality.  The candidate is involved in but not limited to the following: 

 

1.  Implement the Capital Investment Project Methodology (CIPM) process in the Business Unit.

 

•    Lead and contribute to the development of investment files and justifications for projects within the Business Unit.
•    Co-ordinate work with other groups (Engineering, Purchasing, Financial) within the Project Delivery Process
•    Monitor Manufacturing performance and identify deficiencies and/or opportunities for improvement in the areas of: Product, Process, Equipment, Energy, Environment, Health and Safety
•    Participate in the design, development and implementation of solutions that improve capability 
•    Lead the addition and integration of new or modified equipment and/or Technology into the Business Unit
•    Participate in post investment reviews

 

2.  Supports the Capital Planning process within the Business Unit.

 

•    Support the development of ongoing multi-year plans for the improvement of the Business Unit assets and performance
•    Identify and recommend projects including the development of the Business Case to support the achievement of the Business Unit goals.

 

Education & Experience:

 

•    4-year University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or 3-year Mechanical Engineering Technologist College Diploma is preferred.
•    Consideration will be given to candidates with a degree/diploma in other disciplines provided they have relatable work experience
•    3-5 years of work experience in a related role is required
•    Previous Capital Project Management experience is an asset

•    Proven interpersonal and relationship building skills within assigned team and with other Business Units or teams within AMD and at all levels of the organization.
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills

•    Ability to work within a team on RCFA and/or FMEA processes
•    Proven ability to apply the major concepts of equipment design and designing for reliability
•    Advanced Knowledge – Principles, theory and practice related to area of technical discipline
•    Working Knowledge – Manufacturing process and experience
•    Working Knowledge – AM CIPM process
•    Working Knowledge – Project Management best practices and skills
•    Working Knowledge – Financial project evaluation techniques
•    Working Knowledge – Investment File Preparation
•    Working Knowledge – Project Risk Analysis
•    Working Knowledge – AMD Quality System
•    Working Knowledge – AMD H&S Processes


Work Environment:


•    Required to work in both a manufacturing and plant office environment 
•    The manufacturing plant environment includes exposure to dust, chemicals, temperature changes, noise, and large industrial equipment.  
•    This role may be eligible to work remote on an ad hoc or part time basis.


Hours of Work:

 

•    Days Monday to Friday, with extended hours as required to meet project deadlines or off-hour shifts during shutdowns to manage execution of project deliverables.
