Server Administrator

We are seeking a full-time employee to join the IT Services team in the role of IT Windows System Administrator, supporting Windows based operating systems and technologies.  The ideal candidate is someone who specializes in installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows-based servers and will be instrumental in supporting business critical systems and development related systems.


Position Description


  • Advanced knowledge of core network IP services such as Windows DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, File Service and FTP.
  • Perform system administration duties which include diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, networking, and system issues when they arise.
  • Support, maintain and operate Windows standalone systems as well as Windows systems running on VMWare and Windows Hypervisor solutions.
  • Proactively monitor system performance to ensure optimization of the server hosts.
  • Perform monthly software and security patching updates in order to maintain a secure environment.
  • Guide and assist with application installations on the Intel platforms with various internal AM Dofasco personnel and external IT consultants.
  • Assist technical leads team member with virtualized environments such as VMWARE, Citrix, Azure and Hyper-V.
  • Experienced with management of Azure and / or AWS tenants
  • Knowledge of Microsoft System Management software including WSUS, SCCM and SCOM software suites.
  • Understanding of Cloud solutions including Microsoft Azure, SharePoint Online and OneDrive.
  • Demonstrate the ability to recovery server systems using third party backup software tools such as VEEAM and NetBackup.
  • Participate in detail technical discussions with future and current Windows architecture and disaster recovery technologies.
  • Ability to be perform various duties in self-sufficient manner with minimal supervision
  • Prior experience working in a 24/7 production environment
  • Understanding of SOX compliance and gathering, reporting and collecting data to meet compliance
  • Ability to work within a change management environment where change requests, tasks, and incidents are completed within SLA’s.
  • Knowledge of how to use ServiceNow ticketing system.
  • Provide off-hour support for core responsibilities and assist where required.
  • Provide metrics to automate and forecast annual server fleet capacities.

Required Skills and Experience


  • College degree or Bachelor Degree in an Information System discipline
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an Information Systems services related role
  • Knowledge of audit compliancy
  • Ability to create scripts to perform automation and reports.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment
  • Experience working with hardware and software vendors
  • Ability to analyze, plan own work and solve problems
  • Demonstrate self-discipline, high standards, initiative, and creativity
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Thrives in a fast-pace dynamic environment

Working Conditions:


Office environment.


Hours of Work:


Days, Monday to Friday, with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads. Required to be on a shared pager rotation for 24 x 7 support.
