Opportunity

 

ArcelorMittal North America is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the Communications Director. Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our communication strategies to enhance our brand reputation, engage stakeholders, and drive business growth. A successful candidate will develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies, effective content and messaging, and provide proactive and practical support to all levels of the organization. You will collaborate closely with global and cross functional teams and senior leadership to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The key responsibilities and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

General:

  • Establish, develop, execute, and measure a comprehensive multi-channel communication strategy aligned with ArcelorMittal business objectives and values.

  • Partner with units in North America and work with teams globally to support global and segment level communication.  

  • Provide strategic communications counsel for projects, initiatives, and issues management.

  • Create and manage communications budget.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

External Communications:

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and media liaison including during crises, fostering positive relationships with journalists, industry analysts, and other key stakeholders.

  • Manage presence at industry events, trade shows, and conferences.

  • Liaison between North America and Investor Relations

 

Internal Communications:

  • Establish strong internal partnerships across the business units and functions in support of various initiatives and campaigns and alignment of internal and external communications.

  • Observing strict brand guidelines, prepare communications collateral and content (including press releases, articles, speeches, presentations) for all platforms.

 

Corporate Responsibility:

  • Approve and advise community sponsorships, grant partnerships, activities promoting STEM and diversity in the workforce, and volunteer organization.

  • Support corporate responsibility initiatives, including contributions to the annual corporate responsibility report.

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in a communications, public relations, or marketing role.

  • Proven experience in a senior communication or similar role, with track record of success in developing and implementing communication strategies, effective media relations and proficiency in digital media platforms.

  • Working knowledge of content management systems (Umbraco, SharePoint Modern) HTML coding, digital graphics production (Canva, ContactMonkey) and familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro).

  • Experience with search engine marketing, Google Analytics, and Google AdWords.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.

 

Skills

  • Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences in English. Communication skills in French or Spanish will be an asset.

  • Critical thinking and an ability to understand complex business issues to craft messages for targeted audience groups.

  • Effective team player and ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.

  • Relationship builder with strong capacity to "manage by influence".

  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material.

  • Ability to adapt, quick-learner, project management and execution skills.

 

Other important details

  • Location – Schererville, IN

  • Scope - North America segment

  • Travel – approximately 20%

  • Working conditions - office setting - Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads.
