DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

Role Overview: The ideal candidate will be instrumental in providing direction and management for the operations and maintenance of the new Non-Grain Oriented Electrical Steel (NOES) facility, for delivering safety, quality, reliability, and overall production performance targets and to effectively support the ArcelorMittal North America business objectives. As this facility is in the Engineering phase of a very large capital project, it will be critical to engage closely with the project team during the project phase for Reliability and Maintainability Studies, System Integration Planning, operational workforce planning and hiring, own and oversee commissioning planning and implementation for a flawless startup, product qualification, production ramp-up, and eventually the steady-state operations of the facility.

 

Collaboration: The role requires close collaboration with the Calvert Leadership team and other production facilities, particularly focusing on logistics, supply chain, and upstream material feeds.

 

Safety and Quality: A significant focus on ensuring safety and maintaining high-quality standards throughout the operations is top priority.

 

Reporting: This role will report to Chief Operating Officer of North America and will closely work with the Calvert Leadership and with other production facilities for feeds from upstream, internal, and external logistics, and supply chain.

 

The Basics

  • B.S. in Engineering or related field, or equivalent working experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a management position of a Steel Mill (Area Manager or higher) with a strong record of safe operations of the plant.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgical processes related to non-grain oriented electrical steel and experience with annealing, pickling, rolling, and coating processes.
  • Strong decision-making and analytical skills with both strategic and tactical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively work cross-functionally with various groups.
  • Ability to develop and deliver technical presentations at senior management level.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products

 

 The Extra

  • Experience with capital projects, product development, commissioning, and product ramp-up, will be a great advantage.
  • A working knowledge of SAP applications preferred.
  • Advanced degree in engineering or business preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • Experience driving a quality culture.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

During Project Phase: Building the operations team, ensuring the facility is constructed for safe and efficient operations, engaging with the Strategic Planning Team, and coordinating with multiple functions within the company for a reliable build-up of the facility, plant commissioning, product qualification, product ramp-up leading up to steady state.

 

During Operations Phase: Leading the operations team, managing budgets, aligning KPIs with business objectives, supporting career development, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of technology systems. Specific job functions are as follows.

  • Responsible for general oversight and management of the Electrical Steel Finishing Facility, encompassing Production, Maintenance, Reliability and Quality teams and processes.
  • Coordinating with leaders to determine engineering solutions for quality and throughput optimization without a given solution process.
  • Coordination of objectives and planning to deliver production on target and without delay.
  • Coordination of objectives and planning to ensure reliability through proactive maintenance and effective corrective action.
  • Provide leadership for direct reports and wider organization, including serving as a key SME and escalation point for questions of compliance and technical issues relating to the process and its components.
  • Approval of key documents, including risk assessments, DHF deliverables, trend signal reviews/reports, and investigations of significant safety risks or operational events.
  • Engage with Senior Leadership to communicate the risks, mitigation plans, and status updates on business objectives.
  • Develop and implement product and process continuous improvement strategy.
  • In collaboration with other SME’s, identify and implement improvements for new or existing processes and procedures to maintain and enhance AM Calvert product quality.
  • Actively participate in strategic planning and drive tactical execution to achieve company goals.
  • Consult and support strategic programs being developed or implemented.
  • Manage and set yearly budgets.
  • Develop KPI’s to assess key business and operational metrics.
  • Work to achieve program standardization between businesses.
  • Facilitate policy development and deployment throughout the corporation.
  • Lead and facilitate implementation of new regulations.
  • Train our various businesses on new requirements for compliance
  • Standardize approach to implementation of new regulations.
  • Provide oversight of quality and compliance goals
  • Interface directly with the divisions on policy development and deployment
  • Represent AM Calvert at events and in organizations within the industry and community.
  • Development of training for the work force.
  • Performance review for the direct reporting team members.
  • Fulfill the commitment to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Fulfill the responsibilities required to achieve the Quality Commitment and Environmental Commitment
  • Ensure working knowledge of competencies as defined in ISO 14001 (current version), IATF 16949 (current version), and ISO 17025 (current version)

  • Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads or weekend coverage.
